It's all about what's fresh at Cambridge Markets EQ this week

Tomorrow at the market it’s all about freshness. We have beautifully fresh seasonal produce, the fresh winter weather, and most importantly in these times, plenty of fresh air.  As an open-air, outdoor market, we provide a wonderfully healthy place to nip around and do your weekly shop with plenty of space to keep the required distance. And because you’re buying direct from farmers, producers and makers, there’s minimal handling of items. So rather than head to a packed, indoors supermarket, come along tomorrow to fill your basket with the freshest fare on offer. Knowing that you’re not only buying nutrient-dense, ethically grown and sourced foods, but you’re also in a safe and healthy environment. That’s what we call taking care of yourself and your family!

A self-described ‘fruit detective’, Michael from Banana Bar is ever on the hunt to track down deliciously sweet and ethically grown fruit. As well as working to keep Coffs Harbour’s banana industry sustainable, despite competition from corporate Queensland growers, Michael also continually sources the best fruit of the season for our marketgoers. This week, he’s found the perfect pear. Come along and sample the honey pear from Arthur’s Creek with its speckled skin and all the honeyed sweetness of a Josephine pear. They’re perfect for poaching with vanilla and cinnamon and serving with a dollop of whipped cream.

Michael will also be joined by fellow grocers: John from the Regional Store with his 100 per cent organic produce; Prickle Hill Farms with an abundance of seasonal fruit and veg; and Simon from Veggie King, who has east peel oranges, raspberries, cauliflowers, bok choy, English spinach, leeks and beetroot.

With the school holidays just around a very tight corner, a visit to Cute Educational Toys tomorrow is a must to stock up on activities to keep the children entertained. Unstick eyes from screens with fun and wonderful toys that help encourage the development of motor skills, problem-solving and engaged play, such as ‘quiet’ books that teach counting and the alphabet, animal playmats, felt calendars, and beautifully tactile felt finger and hand puppets.

Also at the market this Wednesday is our usual array of brilliant stallholders selling everything from hand-poured candles to hand-baked doughnuts. Come along for scented inspiration from Verve Candles and Elegance by A; ethically minded and timeless fashions from Venetia Elaine, Silk Route, Raw Essence, and The Kingsman Collection; eco-aware jewellery from Bowerbird; presents for your pooch; and natural beauty from Kharma Hemp. There’s also Berliner Bakery for a sugar-dusted delight and sweet somethings from A Shared Table. And, of course, a veritable cornucopia of hot food to fuel your shopping.

Just in case you weren’t acutely aware, the school holidays start this weekend. Get them off to a good start by coming along to our Saturday market at the EQ. There’s something for the whole brood to enjoy, from toys and fashion to hot coffee, delicious food and fabulous produce. And don’t forget, Wentworth Point Market is on this Sunday, too. It’s a double market kind of weekend!

Thank you and see you at the market.
