Summer might be all about the barbecue, but winter is all about rich, unctuous braises. The season’s produce lends itself to set-and-forget cooking where time does all the hard work for you. Come down to the market, see what’s on offer and plan your weekly menu highlighted by the abundant fresh vegetables and fruit. At Prickle Hill this week, their pulling up pumpkins and leeks, both of which are lovely in a slow-cooked soup or stew. They also have Fred’s reds and cara cara oranges. Plus, it’s olive harvest this week in Yenda, so get ready for some plump, briny morsels. Simon at Veggie King has sweet leeks, too, plus artichokes, and beautiful little Brussels sprouts, which benefit enormously by being pan-fried with a little bacon, then livened up with a splash of vinegar. Simon also has mandarins, navel oranges, pomegranate and pink lady apples (yes to crumble!). It’s a veritable winter cornucopia at the market this week!

Pre-baked, packaged and ready for toppings, they make last-minute dinners a cinch. Why not make it a pizza party and pair Hank’s with Azteca Margarita! Add a little giddy-up to your drinks sessions with these handcrafted margarita mixes, which elevate things by using delicious salt blends. These small-batch mixes are hand-brewed in Mona Vale using quality Australian ingredients an botanicals. They’re salty, tangy and deliciously refreshing. Bottoms up!
