Time to party at EQ this weekend, with Cambridge Markets

There’s something so electric about Sydney at Mardi Gras time. You can feel the love and see the rainbows everywhere you turn, particularly in the East. As we all know, there’s no party like a Sydney Gay and Lesbian Mardi Gras party, so dig out your feather boa and pull on those fishnet pantyhose, because tomorrow we’re all in for a gay old time.

With Mardi Gras being held at our neighbouring Sydney Cricket Ground this year, we feel particularly close to the action at the Entertainment Quarter. So come along to the market on Saturday to get prepped for the big event. If you’re celebrating with a soiree at home, stock up on party platter essentials at our wonderful providores and artisan food stalls. If you’re lucky enough to be heading across to the SCG, we’ll get you ready with face painting to suit your fabulous outfit. We’ll also have a live DJ spinning a pumping pre-party playlist to truly kick the atmosphere in peak frivolity. So come down and join us at the market to revel in the magic of Mardi Gras 2021.

You may have noticed a creeping cool change of late. As autumn takes the baton from summer, the produce on our table changes. James from Prickle Hill is picking and packing beautiful, plump figs, fresh jujubes, heirloom tomatoes and some late-summer peaches. While Simon at Veggie King is harvesting the last of his stonefruit, so be quick to snare the final plums and nectarines before we move into citrus season. Simon also has juicy grapes, new baby Gala apples, cute baby vine tomatoes, cauliflower and salad mixes. When it comes to non-edible perishables, choose a beautiful Mardi Gras bouquet from Mayfarm Flowers. This week there’s the sunniest of sunflowers, field-grown lilies, Lisianthus, candlelight hydrangeas, and orchid Phalaenopsis.

Once you’ve taken the full week to recover from Sydney’s biggest party, we estimate you’ll be about ready to venture into the world again by next Sunday. If you’re in the Eastern Suburbs, come along to the Watson’s Bay Market and for our more north-west residing friends, join us at Ryde Wharf Markets. Both these water-adjacent community markets are full of brilliant hot food and coffee and a range of hand-picked, carefully curated stalls selling everything from fashion and homewares to pet care and plants.

It’s the last call for stallholders looking to set up shop at the upcoming Cronulla Easter Market with applications closing on Monday. However, applications are now open for the exciting new Maitland Regional Market, which begins Easter Sunday. If you have a high-quality, local or artisan product, please get in touch for your chance to be a part of our vibrant market community.

Thank you and happy Mardi Gras!
