A real taste of spring has arrived at Cambridge Markets EQ

Nothing screams spring like asparagus. These delicious, succulent woody shoots are a bellwether for the change of season, poking their heads out of the soil when the winter fades and the sun starts to shine. We are very pleased this week to offer three types of beautiful spring asparagus — on sale at the market and online. Try our purple and white asparagus and supplement them with a fresh green bunch, to make a colourful and health giving salad. Asparagus require only one minute of cooking in a pot of simmering water, and are fantastic served simply with a splash of extra virgin olive oil, a pinch of salt and a squeeze of lemon juice.

To us, being able to offer unusual and to-the-minute seasonal produce is everything market shopping is about. There’s something thrilling about seeing the new produce arrive week by week, a life-affirming signal of the changing seasons that the dull regularity of the (artificially lit) supermarket aisle can’t equal. Come and try it for yourself (or pop into our online store for a virtual experience).

Don’t forget to place your orders by 12pm today to be in time for tomorrow’s home delivery run. And a reminder that as a thank you to our loyal home-delivery customers we are this month offering free delivery on orders over $200.

School holidays are an excellent time to visit Cambridge Markets EQ. A shout out this week goes to our hot food providers, who bring so much colour, flair and flavour to our lovely outdoor market. This week we have a new sandwich stall called Soul Canteen, bringing fabulous burgers and rolls to our hungry hordes, plus there’s Angie’s pancakes, Biryani Mombasa, Pho Bay Noodle, gozleme, garlic prawns and so much more. The sights and smells each Wednesday and Saturday are a testament to the fabulous skills of our chef stallholders and there’s plenty of great eating for the young and not-so-young alike. Kids love it and so do their parents.

There’s much to see and do around the Entertainment Precinct these school holidays. For starters, the sensational Van Gogh Alive show about to kick off at the Royal Hall of Industries. Created by Grande Exhibitions, Van Gogh Alive gives visitors the chance to immerse themselves into Van Gogh’s art and venture into his world in an interactive experience. This event was scheduled to be held in Melbourne, but due to the Covid-19 outbreak there, it has been moved to Sydney. Our win. The show looks amazing — and a few additional tickets have just been released.

Not forgetting, too, that the Spring Family Fair is on over the holiday break. A great treat for the family. Book ahead.

At the market we have some excellent stalls for kids over the next couple of weeks including, on Wednesdays, Cute Educational Toys, the Pixie Patch, Bob Window and Doterra and on Saturdays, Bowerbird Jewels, 4eva Eco and Raw Essence.

Kingsmore Meat’s golden, flaky pies are among our best-selling items on Cambridge Markets online and one of our favourites is back this week — the lamb and sweet potato pie. There’s also the chunky beef pie, the outstanding chicken and leek pie, a fragrant chicken curry and the gently spiced lentil curry. Plus check out our fruit and veg specials including raspberries for $6 per punnet.

Some great news for us this week with the announcement that we are doing a new monthly stall at Meadowbank. This large market will be held monthly, on the second Sunday of the month, starting on November 8. Meadowbank is in the city’s north-west, in the Ryde council zone, and is an area rich in apartments and densely populated. We are looking forward to bringing a bit of Cambridge Markets magic to this special place, in Anderson Park, right on the Parramatta River. It will be great, lock it into your diary for a visit.

We are also calling for stalls for this market. So if you have something great to sell, and feel this could be the spot for you, get in touch with us.
