An apple a day from the markets is just the autumn ticket this week at EQ

Autumn is all about the apple. Crisp, sweet and crunchy, it’s a hand-held healthy snack that never fails to hit the spot. As both Eve and Snow White can attest, a fresh-picked apple is no less than impossible to resist.

So resist you shan’t. At the market this week, we’ve been apple picking and have the loveliest selection for your fruit bowl, lunchbox, pies and porridge. Prickle Hill have gala, fuji and demi rouge. Michael from Banana Bar also has the demi rouge and suggests you try before you buy this hard-to-come-by variety. While Simon from Veggie King has Granny Smiths, bravo, dark red skin, and the somewhat incendiary-sounding baby missile apples.

Keep your apples for longer by storing them in the fridge, but if you’ll be munching through them within a week, it’s fine to keep them at room temperature. Full of fibre and immune-assisting vitamin C, apples are a feelgood fruit and, interestingly, part of the rose family. Quite the contrary to being forbidden, we heartily recommend a bite for health and happiness.

At the market this week, we welcome back Wrappsody with their gorgeous array of wrapping paper and gift cards. It’s a good time to swing by and pick up that finishing touch for your mum’s gift in ample time for Mother’s Day next month. Goodie 4 Paws also joins us every Wednesday and Saturday with their range of pooch-perfect accessories, such as leads, toys, bandanas and bows. So, perhaps, if your mum has a four-legged friend she’s acutely fond of, you could put a bow-wow on it and easily take the favourite child mantel this Mother’s Day.

If you’re a legume lover, you will find a new object of devotion at TLV. Making delicious, creamy hummus from raw, organic chickpeas with no artificial flavours or preservatives, TLV brings guilt-free indulgence to your snack plate. Made by a native Israeli who was homesick for the flavour of authentic hummus, you can be sure you’re tasting the real deal when you dip in. Try it in four different flavours: classic, avocado, beetroot, and pumpkin.

If you have a high-quality and interesting product that you’d love to share with our market community, why not apply for our special Mother’s Day market, held at the EQ on Sunday 2 May? We’re always keen to invite wonderful new stallholders into our network of passionate people selling beautifully crafted wares. But don’t delay, applications close on Monday!

The Sydney Family Show at the EQ is in its final week (sob), so if you haven’t yet had the chance to join in the fun, now is the time to come along and get involved. With everything from pony rides, games, show bags, jumping castle and live music, it’s nothing short of a thoroughly wholesome, good time. If you only manage one family outing this week, let this be it.

Thank you and eat well.
